I like when people are responsible for their own reactions...and this is an interesting set of hypotheticals portrayed in the video. It's also consistent with the communication foundation I built for myself, beginning with Stone, Patton and Heen's Difficult Conversations: How to Discuss What Matters Most.

I think it's really common for people to avoid these kinds of conversations; and with time, that's a damaging pattern to establish. The vital thing about issues is that they're wrapped in people...to get to the issues, we must deal effectively and respectfully with people--but only if we're interested in working well! There is also the huge demand that we deal successfully with our internal conversations...or, how we see ourselves, via the imaginary view of another's eyes--which is often difficult to put in its place: --imagined or hypothetical-- and therefore in our control.
Cheers and chao!
